Autumn 2023 Newsletter
We’ve had a lovely summer at the lodge with average rainfall and mild temperatures - and no floods or bushfires! As we start the countdown to winter, we wanted to share a few things with you…
Annual General Meeting
We had an excellent turnout of TFSL Members for the AGM in Canberra on 11 February. A big thanks to Ned Scanlan for making the RUC available to us as a venue and to everyone that attended.
You can review the AGM Minutes & President’s report here and we’d also like to welcome two new board directors, Robyn Mitchell and Matthew Gane. Robert Twin and Owen Lansbury have voluntarily stepped down as directors, but will remain involved as company secretary and communications manager respectively.
Autumn Work Party
To prepare the lodge for winter, we’ll be running a work party weekend from Friday 5 May to Sunday 7 May, 2023.
If you’re a TFSL Member and would like to attend, please book via the TFSL website. Attendees will receive complimentary accommodation on the Friday and Saturday night along with a $100 accommodation credit for the TFSL Member attending and $50 for anyone else in the Member’s group who participates.
Winter Priority Bookings
Thanks to all the TFSL Members who put in their winter booking requests before the deadline on February 28. Unfortunately, we can’t extend this deadline, but TFSL Members will be the first to know when general winter bookings open up for members and guests alike. Our Booking Officer, Karen, will be working through these in March and contacting you directly to finalise dates and rooms. Bookings will only be confirmed once full payment has been made.
In the meantime, non-peak period bookings can be made by TFSL Members directly via the password protected online booking system.
Manager’s Residence
All of the major preparations for the new manager’s residence have been completed over summer and we expect the prefabricated building will arrive on site after Easter. This should create minimal disruption for any guests staying at the time, but please be aware there may be some periods when trucks are using the driveway. Thanks again to Steven Pearce for all of the earthworks and to Cath Glover for coordinating a lot of the details with the builders. Our lodge manager, Mick, has also played an integral role in a lot of the labour intensive tasks preparing the site for his new home!
Pre-Winter Entertainment & Education
We know many of you like getting psyched for the ski season and we can recommend checking out the Warren Miller movie tour and the Banff Mountain Film Festival - both running around Australia through May and June.
If you’re interested in backcountry skiing, Mountain Safety Collective will be running educational nights for the community in Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney. Follow MSC’s Instagram or Facebook for event announcements and backcountry conditions reports throughout the snow season.
